Wildeck Castle

W skrócie

Wildeck Castle with Renaissance rooms, motorcycle exhibition, coin workshop, printing museum with book bindery and department of stamps.

The castle in Zschopau on the river of the same name is located at the point where there was once a ford between Leipzig and Prague. Mighty castles guarded the old trade route, including Wildeck Castle, which emerged from an old fortification from the 12th century.

Duke Moritz of Saxony had the castle in the Ore Mountains converted into a hunting lodge in the mid-16th century. The only thing that remains of the once defiant military facility today is the »Fat Heinrich«, a 30 meter high tower with meter thick walls.

The Renaissance castle, which can be seen from afar, now houses several museums on industrial history, especially on Saxon vehicle construction, because the world's largest motorcycle factory used to be in Zschopau. Noble DKW machines from the “Rasmussen Collection”, MZ motorcycles as well as enduro and racing machines make the eyes of castle guests with petrol in their veins shine.
