It's the most wonderful time of the year when the sparkling evening circular walk illuminates Dresden's famous Pillnitz Palace & Park for the fifth time. The wintry walk takes a new route with different worlds of lights that continue to surprise even our guests from previous years.
Sparkling points of light and new installations staged with a lot of heart and soul captivate guests and enchant them with sound creations composed exclusively for the Christmas Garden Dresden. The unique concept of the Christmas Garden remains true to its high-quality claim and has even increased its complexity this year: The Christmas Garden promises a sensual experience away from the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle and inspires the audience with overwhelming audiovisual light art at the highest artistic and technical level.
At the same time, the Christmas Garden incorporates the charm of the individual locations into the overall staging and sets creative impulses for reflection in keeping with the reflective season. In the Christmas Garden Dresden, the public can expect a density of attractions with around 30 installations and a nostalgic carousel, making the visit an unforgettable memory.
With majestic grace, the Lustgarten shines in a blaze of light as the Water Palace, the New Palace and the Mountain Palace of Pillnitz Palace & Park welcome the public in a festive blaze of colour. The famous Triton Gondola of Augustus the Strong appears almost like a fairytale carriage in sparkling coloured lights and the princely gardens are decorated with countless illuminated garlands. The royal scenery is rounded off with a three-dimensional, illuminated crown and accompanied by baroque music. Natura, a female face adorned with flowers that speaks to visitors as a video projection on the Blutbuche nature monument, invites them to pause. Here, the well-known voice of Luise Lunow, the grande dame of German dubbing artists, literally demonstrates to the audience the need to protect nature. In the Magical Galaxy, visitors enter a different world. The path leads through an illuminated tunnel and through an arrangement of cosmic figures that glow mysteriously in the black light, surrounded by green laser beams and mystical mist. Es weihnachtet sehr! is a tribute to regional traditional art, as here the English Pavilion is transformed into a giant Christmas pyramid from the Ore Mountains. The Water Fairy Tale will particularly delight the youngest guests this season with its new Christmas story. Father Christmas comes flying into Dresden on a colourfully illuminated wall of water mist measuring eight by ten metres and is accompanied by music composed especially for him. Also new are the Magical Clouds, where guests can walk through a nine-metre tunnel covered in colourful clouds and interactively control the installation visually and acoustically. The crowning glory in the Christmas Garden Dresden is the Golden Horseman. This is a gigantic video mapping onto the back of the Bergpalais, where the history of August the Strong can be marvelled at in the form of a moving acrylic painting.
But a visit to the Christmas Garden Dresden is not only worthwhile because of the luminous highlights, of which there are many more to discover. The nostalgic carousel, an exact replica from 1898, will make children's hearts beat faster, and the varied gastronomic offerings from festcatering in Dresden invite you to take a tasty break along the circular route. Those who want to let the atmosphere of the Christmas Garden reverberate at home will soon be able to access a selection of music produced especially for the event series: a playlist will be available on the well-known streaming service providers Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Deezer.

The Dresden city tour also offers a special glitter tour with a visit to the Christmas Garden Dresden. Starting at the Altmarkt along the Elbe River and passing the three Elbe castles, this tour will take you warmly and comfortably to Pillnitz between 16.11.2023 and 14.01.2024 daily at 16:30 and 18:00 (dates and times may vary) and will also bring you back to Dresden after your visit to the Christmas Garden.
