Greifensteine-Festival

W skrócie

Three premieres and three revivals are on the program this summer on Europe's most beautiful rock stage;

On June 20, 2026, it’s that time again: the Greifenstein Festival kicks off the new season with a diverse program. For ten weeks, through August 30, the ensemble of the Eduard-von-Winterstein Theater from Annaberg-Buchholz will perform on the open-air stage in Ehrenfriedersdorf.

The ensemble of the Eduard-von-Winterstein Theater from Annaberg-Buchholz has been performing at the impressive Greifensteine open-air theater since 1928. Since the 1950s, this unique stage with its imposing granite cliffs has been an integral part of the summer repertoire, offering unforgettable open-air theater experiences ever since. This year, three special premieres are drawing audiences to the Ore Mountains.

Starting July 4, 2026, “Pippi Longstocking” will bring plenty of mischief and laughter to the family theater. She lives in Villa Villekulla, is as strong as ten adults, and lives the wildest, freest life imaginable: Pippi Longstocking—the bravest, most extraordinary girl in the world!

On Friday, July 24, 2026, the musical “The Bush Ghost,” based on the Erzgebirge novel by Karl May, will celebrate its world premiere. Set against the impressive backdrop of the Ore Mountains, this gripping production tells a story of poverty, love, betrayal, and a mysterious figure who oscillates between being a beacon of hope and a criminal. Look forward to a thrilling musical full of suspense, powerful emotions, and regional atmosphere.

Against the impressive backdrop of St. Anne’s Church, “Der erzgebirgische Jedermann” will have its grand premiere on Saturday, August 1, 2026. This extraordinary open-air production, based on Hugo von Hofmannsthal and adapted by Jan Holtappels, transposes the famous story to the Ore Mountains and tells of a gripping contest between the Devil, Death, and the human soul, impressively brought to life by the professional ensemble together with the community choir. Look forward to great open-air theater with a regional flair, powerful imagery, and emotional intensity.
