Anniversary exhibition "Allegories of Life. Ursula Mattheuer-Neustädt and Wolfgang Mattheuer"

W skrócie

Following the successful year of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, in which 253,000 visitors were welcomed to the six museums, the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz will continue to offer a multi-layered and varied exhibition program in 2026. The museums of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz will focus on major themes such as utopia and myth, loss and mourning, as well as everyday life and memories of the past.

The anniversary exhibition "Allegories of Life. Ursula Mattheuer-Neustädt and Wolfgang Mattheuer" (3. 10. 2026 - 11. 4. 2027, in cooperation with the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig) explores their respective artistic roles in self-portraits and portraits of their counterparts, shows their inspiration from literature, poetry and classical myths, which were used in many ways in the GDR from the 1970s onwards, and explores the broad interpretation of the motif of landscape.
