Historic Castle Christmas at Voigtsberg Castle

W skrócie

It is the experience of Christmas as it might have been in the past, an adventure for the whole family.

The fourth Sunday of Advent at Voigtsberg Castle is once again dedicated to the “Historical Castle Christmas.” Here, guests can experience Christmas as it might have been during the Gründerzeit—an adventure for the whole family. Visitors won’t find a Christmas market in the traditional sense here; rather, the focus is on the contemplative and festive spirit of the holidays during the Gründerzeit era at the end of the 19th century. This period was shaped by industrialization, the German Empire, and a rising middle class. In addition to the customary crafts, the Art Nouveau Ferris wheel, the vintage carousel, and demonstrations featuring Tesla coils, the event also features a barber shop, a toy store with historic tin toys, and the “Office for Ether Affairs.” Details such as the “Matchstick Girl” are just as much a part of the Christmas experience as the fascinating puppet theater, the traveling performers with “workers’ songs,” the “Hau den Lukas” game, and the lovely Christmas angel—all of which are sure to make eyes light up—while Prince Otto von Bismarck himself unveils the statue created especially for the Castle Christmas (which was melted down in 1944 during the war). The culinary journey through time continues on the palate as well. In addition to mulled wine, wafers, Baumstriezel, and gingerbread, local delicacies such as Bambes, Flammkuchen, cheese flatbread, and “gezupfte Sau” are popular treats.

The Castle Christmas Market is open on Saturday, December 19, and Sunday, December 20, starting at 11:00 a.m. The military tattoo is scheduled for around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. In addition, the Voigtsberg Castle museums will be open until 7:00 p.m. on both days; reduced admission applies to everyone.
