Exhibition "Cowshed and silver plate"

W skrócie

After more than three years of planning and renovation, the new tour through Saxony's only completely preserved country baroque complex will open on June 29, 2025. You can experience 300 years of castle history and the everyday life of the nobility and servants. There will be a big family celebration to mark the opening.

300 years of stories come to life
Like something out of a picture book: Rammenau Castle is the only completely preserved country baroque complex in Saxony. All parts of the building, the Meierhof, the Ehrenhof, the castle and the park, are intact and have been meticulously restored. The new permanent exhibition explains what the individual parts were used for and who lived and worked there. From June 29, 2025, "Cowshed and Silver Plates - Nobility and Everyday Life in Rammenau" will bring the everyday lives of former castle residents and their servants from 300 years of the castle's history to life in an emotional and interactive way.

Holistic mediation for all the senses
The new tour encompasses the entire castle grounds. For the first time, visitors to the cowshed, servants' kitchen and stables can find out how the servants lived, what they ate and what hard work they did on the farm and in the fields. At a milking station, you can meet "Perle", a cow that once belonged to the castle, and try your hand at milking. In the servants' kitchen, you can see what ended up on the plates of the farmhands and maidservants, unlike the lord of the manor. With play equipment such as hobby horses and wheelbarrows to borrow, families will find a suitable pastime. In the castle, you can get to know the aristocratic residents. Luxury and comfort reign in the magnificent chambers. But people also worked here and managed the estate with great skill. At audio stations, you become an onlooker to everyday experiences. Media stations provide in-depth information on the history of the building, the murals and individual people. From 1720 to the end of the Second World War, episodes from the castle's history flow into the tour. Small stages, interactive showcases and cleverly placed scenic elements make everyday life back then tangible. In the outdoor area - Meierhof, Ehrenhof and castle park - interviews with contemporary witnesses bring the period from 1945 to the political change in Saxony to life. Sitting on the park bench, visitors can hear about life in the castle in the 1950s and what it was like to work in the Meierhof as a member of the LPG "Johann-Gottlieb-Fichte". The exhibition appeals to the senses: You can read, hear, feel, play, use your own strength and join in. The everyday worlds of nobility and servants, the interplay between castle and village, can thus be experienced in an impressive way.

Family festival at the opening - free entry with costume
On June 29 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the new permanent exhibition will finally open its doors to visitors. This will be celebrated with a big family party on the first Sunday of the summer holidays. Anyone who dresses up in an appropriate costume gets free entry. Princesses, counts, servants and even cows are welcome. In the castle grounds there is a fencing station, instructions for baroque dancing, an antique washboard for washing clothes, a corn puzzle, craft activities and play equipment to borrow. In the obstacle course, guests' skills are tested with wheelbarrows and carrying yokes. Suitable accessories are available at two photo stations to transform yourself into servants or aristocratic castle residents. Of course, there will also be waffles, onion tart and lemonade to keep everyone well fed. Last admission is 16:30.
