Once a year, the tranquil spa town of Seiffen - world-famous for its Erzgebirge wood art - becomes a Mecca for mountain bike fans, as more than 1,500 like-minded people meet here every year on the first weekend in August to measure their strength at the Erzgebirge Bike Marathon (EBM).
The mixture of top-class and popular sport, sporting event and family event, together with the great tradition, ultimately formed the EBM brand, which has asserted itself like a Gallic village against the superiority of the large professional events. The atmosphere at the "Alp de Wettin" and on the steep descent in Seiffener Grund, where hundreds of spectators cheer on the participants, is proverbial. This is what makes the race such a cult event.
But you can also try out the route to your heart's content on all other days of the year: The 28 km circuit is signposted as the "EBM Tour" around Seiffen.
