Zwönitz mining history

From the information centre at the market square, the route proceeds downhill to the Austelvilla, and from there it turns right into Austelpark. This is where you will find the mouths of the Neues Glück municipal mine. After crossing the Zwönitz bypass, you will also glimpse the entrance to the Gottes Segen tunnel. Cross Annaberger Strasse and, heading left, reach the “waterfall”. At the dog training grounds, a few steps lead down to the St. Christoph municipal mine. Crossing the road to Geyer, we come to the Felsbauend Glück tunnel and a water therapy pool. After crossing the Zwönitz river, we arrive at its source, always uphill. Now the route runs through the forest to the Dreienweg path, and on to the Schlangenweg path, the “Mauswinkel” and the “Türckschanze” historical landmark. After crossing Grünhainer Strasse and passing the Silberstollen (silver mine), we will soon be in the district of Kühnhaide. Continuing downhill, we encounter the administration and assembly building for the Pauckner Stolln mine and the “Bergmännische Traditionsecke” (mining tradition site). Here we turn right and continue to the market square.
