Coming from the direction of Witzschdorf, you walk directly along the Zschopau on a narrow forest path until you reach the Schöntalbrücke bridge in Hennersdorf. Here, follow the signs straight ahead and continue straight ahead along the Zschopau on a paved path. Shortly before the crossroads at Hennersdorf station, you will see the work and study center on the left-hand side. The Empanada coffee house is a very popular place for a break at weekends during the hiking season.
Leave Hennersdorf railroad station on the left and follow Bahnhofstraße straight on through the village, past the covered wooden bridge. Before leaving the village, at the "Topplappenviertel", turn left onto a narrower path towards the forest. Now follow the signs into the forest. The path then leads straight ahead in the forest until you reach a crossroads. Keep right there, then turn left uphill in a bend. After approx. 200 m, take a sharp left onto a narrow path towards Kunnerstein. (Signpost slightly hidden). The path then zigzags uphill through the forest. The path leads to a T-junction where you turn left. Shortly afterwards, you will reach the Kunnerstein straight ahead (beautiful viewpoint and picnic area!).
At the Kunnerstein, follow the signs to the right upwards. The trail then follows the nature trail for a while until just before the E-path (keep straight ahead). Shortly before the E-path, a small path turns left into the forest. Follow this path, cross the E-path and continue straight ahead along another narrow path through the forest until you reach Albin-Müller-Straße, where you turn left. Then immediately turn right again and walk up the Bottichberg, straight ahead until you reach the castle driveway at the top (note: there is a bus stop on the opposite side of the road where you can get on or off the bus).
Walk past the fairytale fountain and behind the playground up the zigzag path through the forest towards the castle. Once at the top, keep straight ahead and follow the Bärengartenweg path that runs behind the castle. There are benches and information boards about bear keeping up to the 18th century.
- Tip: Shortly before the end of the Bärgengartenweg, a path leads up to the right, which leads directly into the historic old town. A short detour for a stroll, a look around or a coffee is therefore possible here. The tourist information office is also located in the old town. Here you can get tour recommendations, maps, souvenirs and tips for your stay. A visit to Augustusburg Castle is also highly recommended.
At the end of the Bärengartenweg, turn left, then slightly right and immediately left again and then follow the path immediately to the left of the top station of the cable car uphill into the forest (natural toboggan run in winter). This path now continues uphill to Erdmannsdorf (also a section of the Ostsee-Saaletalsperre long-distance hiking trail). At the end of the path/at the forest exit, keep straight ahead, walk under the railroad bridge and over the Zschopa bridge.
(Note: Before crossing under the railroad bridge on the right is the Erdmannsdorf stop/station and a parking lot, so this is a possible entry and exit point. Opposite the station is the valley station of the historic cable car)
Attention:
Attention! The following section of the path between Uferstraße and the outdoor pool in Erdmannsdorf is currently closed due to construction work.
- Immediately after the bridge, turn right into Uferstraße and follow it to the end. Turn left over a small bridge and then take a right turn and continue straight ahead through the forest. Continue straight ahead along a grassy path until you reach the Erdmannsdorf outdoor pool. Cross the parking lot at the outdoor pool to reach the B180, which you initially follow before turning left into the forest again. -
RERouting:
Before crossing the bridge, turn right into Poetenweg and continue straight ahead until you reach Flöha. In Flöha, turn left into the residential area, walk to the Zschopau and use the next bridge to get to the other side of the river. Then keep left until you reach the Zschopautalweg again.
