Start in Ebersbach-Neugersdorf at the Upper Lusatian Umgebindehaus Street with Spree springs, Bismarck Tower and Coffee Museum. Experience beautiful special Umgebinde houses there and in the municipality of Kottmar, the Kottmar Spree spring, the post mill in Kottmarsdorf, and wonderful views of Löbau.
Coming from Lawalde, you reach Cunewalde. In addition to the vintage car museum and autocross track, the town surprises with the largest village church in Germany with 2,632 seats; it is a station on the Via Sacra. Furthermore, an Umgebinde house park invites you to take a closer look at those typical half-timbered houses of southern Upper Lusatia. You cycle along the old railway line through the Cunewalde valley towards Großpostwitz.
There you meet the Spree at the old mill, where you then continue a bit on the Spree cycle path to Obergurig with "Old Mill" and brewery. By the way, in Großpostwitz you absolutely must try an ice cream from their own Komet production.
From Obergurig, you go over the so-called "Brenner" to the brandy town of Wilthen. The term "Brenner" there has nothing to do with brandy; it is a mountain pass on the old Bohemian trade route. Here you are greeted by the first Pumphut and others in town. The "Pumphut" is the witch master of Upper Lusatia, a wanderer who perhaps also cycled throughout Upper Lusatia. The figure at the town hall, newly designed, serves as a town emblem. The oldest distillery in Germany, the Wilthener distillery, invites you for a visit, but tasting and cycling don’t really go well together. Then it goes on to Neukirch, where traditional crafts can be seen in demonstration workshops of a master potter and linen weaver. The certified "Upper Lusatian mountain path" begins in Neukirch, a hiking trail from Neukirch to Zittau. You experience Neukirch twice on this route because it first continues to Schmölln-Putzkau. Witnesses of agriculture and especially granite processing are found on this path. Our Upper Lusatian Bergland is rich in stone, and you will notice this frequently on the entire tour – Lusatian granite – something very special.
Through Ringenhain, you then proceed to Steinigtwolmsdorf and from there left into the mountains to Weifa for a photo stop at wonderful viewpoints.
In summer, be sure to stop at the Steinigtwolmsdorf water world.
As you approach Schirgiswalde, the church with its twin towers is already visible from afar. From 1809 to 1845, the town was a Bohemian enclave, while the neighborhood had long belonged to Saxony. Beautifully situated in the mountains is Crostau, with a beautifully restored original Silbermann organ in the small church. Down in the valley, there is a true wellness oasis: Kirschau with romantic holidays in the wellness hotel and spa temple, or relaxation in the "Körse-Therme" with saltworks, brine bath, and sauna area. Water simply belongs to the Upper Lusatian Bergland, whether on the banks of the Spree or in the outdoor pools in Wilthen, Wehrsdorf, Schmölln-Putzkau, Taubenheim adventure pool, Cunewalde adventure pool and Obercunnersdorf, in the Steinigtwolmsdorf water world, or — bottled — from Oppach. Before the round gate in Oppach, you cycle on to Sohland on the Spree. There you can boat in the recreation area at the reservoir, visit the forest stage or the mysterious Kälbersteine, a "divine hand phenomenon." On a nature trail in the sundial village of Taubenheim, you can learn interesting facts about measuring time.
You go to Oppach through Friedersdorf and Neusalza-Spremberg at the German/Czech border.
Neusalza-Spremberg lies directly on the two long-distance cycle paths "Umgebinderadweg" and Spree cycle path. There is the forest and adventure pool and one of the oldest Umgebinde houses in Upper Lusatia, the Reiterhaus, a historical monument and local museum in our town.
This closes the circle, and you are again in the town of Ebersbach-Neugersdorf.
