The circular tour starts at the Thalheim Easter fountain, where the tradition of Easter fountains around the Greifensteine and in the Zwönitz valley was established. This fountain is located opposite the Thalheim town hall.
From there, follow the main road towards Zwönitz/Dorfchemnitz/Brünlos and turn right towards Brünlos/Stollberg after leaving Thalheim. Stay on Brünlos Hauptstraße until you see the elementary school on the right-hand side. The Brünlos municipal administration is on the left-hand side of the road and there is a parking lot right next to it. The Easter fountain can be found at the parish church.
After visiting the Easter fountain, drive back towards Thalheim and turn right at the crossroads just before Thalheim in the direction of Dorfchemnitz and Zwönitz. Follow the main road to Dorfchemnitz and follow the signs to the local history museum and the "Knochenstampfe" technical monument. The Easter fountain is located in front of the museum. Visit the exhibition "Saxony's most beautiful Easter nest" with the motto "The rabbits are on the loose!" with numerous exhibits.
From the Knochenstampfe, continue through Dorfchemnitz to Zwönitz OT Niederzwönitz. Follow Niederzwönitzer Straße and the signs to the "Papiermühle" technical museum. There you will find another Easter fountain. The paper mill also offers paper-making courses for Easter and spring decorations during the Easter period from 18 - 22.04.2019. Please register here in advance if necessary. You can find the contact details under Further information and links.
From the paper mill, follow the main street into Zwönitz town center. The four Easter fountains in Zwönitz town center are close together and can easily be viewed on foot. You can park at the market in Zwönitz. Parking spaces are also available at the Zwönitz city hotel, from where you can easily reach the city center and the Austelpark for an Easter stroll. The Easter fountains are located on the market square in front of the town hall, on Neumarkt, on Alte Schulstraße and on Mühlberg.
After your visit, take the Annaberger Straße/S258 from Zwönitz to Elterlein. At the market, where you can also admire the Barabara Uttmann fountain, you will find the Easter fountain. Tip: There is an Easter market in Elterlein every year.
From Elterlein, the tour continues to Geyer. On the way, you will pass the Elterlein church and the Black Pond. Continue along the road into the center of Geyer. Turn left at the town hall to the Altmarkt. There you will find the Easter fountain at the Altmarkt.
In Geyer, follow August-Bebel-Straße/Thumer Straße from Altmarkt in the direction of Greifensteine. After the climb out of the town center, you will pass the Greifensteine leisure pool. This is a great way to round off your Easter excursion, even in bad weather. If you continue along Thumer Straße, you will also pass the Greifenbachstauweiher pond. This invites you to take a walk along the shore at any time of year. Continue along Thumer Straße and, after a climb through the Geyrischer Wald forest, turn right onto Giftmehlweg to Ehrenfriedersdorf.
From the Gitfmehlweg, it is worth taking a detour following the signs to the Greifensteine rock formation, where an Easter hike is particularly worthwhile. There is also an adventure playground on the site and you can also take a look at the elaborately carved comic and mythical creatures along the forest ghost trail. Information is available at the Greifensteine Tourist Information Office, where you can also solve an Easter puzzle about the region around the Greifensteine.
After these exciting detours to the excursion destinations in the Greifenstein region, you will reach Ehrenfriedersdorf on the Giftmehlweg trail. There you will find the Ehrenfriedersdorf Easter fountain on the market square. The Zinngrube mine in Ehrenfriedersdorf is also worth a visit. A varied program with special guided tours awaits you there during the Easter period.
From Ehrenfriedersdorf, head to Thum, where you will find the Easter-decorated music box at the town hall, which was added to the tour in 2021. A detour to the zoo is also worthwhile, where a particularly popular animal awaits you. From there, continue the tour to Amtsberg.
In the Amtsberg district of Dittersdorf, you will find the next Easter fountain, which can be found on the Dittersdorf through road near the B180. From Ehrenfriedersdorf or Thum, follow the S232 to Gelenau. At the crossroads in Gelenau, keep straight on in the direction of Weißbach. After approx. 3.5 km, turn onto the B180 towards Dittersdorf/Burkhardtsdorf. After approx. 2 km, turn right onto Dittersdorfer Straße, where you will already see the Dittersdorf Easter fountain. In Dittersdorf there is also an Easter decoration worth seeing on the Mühlweg in the direction of Burkhardtsdorf OT Kemtau. Perhaps you will make a spontaneous detour there...
You will find the nearest Easter fountain in Gelenau. Drive back from Dittersdorf to Gelenau and turn right in Gelenau at the crossroads where you were before and drive up the village following the main road until you see the Easter fountain on the town hall square on your right.
Continue along the Straße der Einheit through Gelenau and after approx. 3 km follow the signs to the large Easter show at the Pohl-Ströher depot. A varied Easter and toy exhibition awaits you there.
The next highlight awaits you in Auerbach. At the end of Gelenau, cross the B95 towards Auerbach and drive past the Black Pond. At the next junction, turn right towards Auerbach and stay on Thumer Straße. After the ice cream parlor on the right, you will see the Auerbach "Riesen-Fansterbratl" on the left opposite the municipal administration, which is decorated in great detail at Easter and Christmas time.
From the "Fansterbratl", drive back in the direction you came from. Turn right at the traffic lights at the ice cream parlor and follow the road until you turn right towards Hormersdorf. Follow the road into the Zwönitz district of Hormersdorf and turn right onto the priority road. Then turn right towards Gornsdorf. You will find the Easter fountain at the dialect clock on the left-hand side of the village square.
Continue along the main road from Hormersdorf to Gornsdorf. There you come to the crossroads where you turn right again towards Auerbach, but continue straight on. Follow the main road through Gornsdorf until you see the Sparkasse bank on your left. There you will find the municipal administration on the right-hand side and you will probably already see the large, colorfully decorated Gornsdorf Easter fountain.
If you continue along Gornsdorf's main road, you will come back to the B180 and can turn left towards Thalheim to start your tour.
