For centuries, the Saigerhütte in Olbernhau, with its 22 half-timbered houses, two hammer mills, fortified gates and circular wall, was the center of copper processing in Saxony. For visitors, Olbernhau is a globally unique witness to non-ferrous metallurgy. Further south-east, the route leads into the picturesque Schweinitz valley and on to Seiffen, surrounded by wooded mountain slopes. The name of today's spa town "Seiffen" refers to the washing of tin from mountain streams. In the second half of the 18th century, there was a shift towards woodworking and numerous woodcraft factories were established. Today, Seiffen is famous worldwide as the "Toymaking Village of the Ore Mountains". The toy museum offers an insight into traditional craftsmanship.
