Weißeritztalbahn Schmiedeberg train station
Weißeritztalbahn Obercarsdorf train station
We start the hike at the Weißeritztalbahn train station, Hp Schmiedeberg-Naundorf, following the road uphill about 500m to a bench with a signpost "Lookout tower 400 m". Follow the adjacent path next to a small stream another 400m until reaching the village of Obernaundorf. About 350m further uphill the hiker reaches the former castle/manor Naundorf, which is currently being restored. The first dining option is another 350m along the road in the historic pub "Zur Schmiede", which is open daily from 5:00 pm. Closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Opposite the castle is the entrance to the castle park. Enter it through a wrought iron gate flanked by two sandstone pillars. On the main axis of the path is the fountain, built in 1925 and renovated in 2013. Straight past it, heading north through the park and some forest, we reach the lookout tower "Ottos Eck", built in 1867, restored in 2003. The tower is open from April to October on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The view into the Weißeritz valley is especially beautiful and invites you to linger and fully enjoy the sight. Relaxedly follow the path behind the tower and discover about 50m to the right in the forest an obelisk commemorating the Otto family. We now follow the path downhill, reach a wider forest path and turn left on it. At the later fork, continue downhill about 1 km to the junction with the B 171 road. There, behind the guardrail, we see an old way column with the initials O.B.1898 (apparently erected by Oskar Bierling).
Now we follow the road briefly uphill and turn sharply right into the first path with a green hiking mark "Obercarsdorf 2 km". Ascending about 400m through the forest, initially still in sight of the way column at the federal road, later without markings, we reach a height with a beautiful view of Obercarsdorf, Dippoldiswalde, and the foothills. On a meadow path we now follow the green hiking mark downhill along the forest towards Obercarsdorf. At the village entrance, turn right onto the asphalt road up to the intersection with Sonnenblick street. Follow it about 20m and then turn right again onto the signposted pedestrian path to the train station. The second dining option is about 200m further straight ahead in the "Obercarsdorf inn". Opening hours are Thursday to Monday 11:00 am - 2:00 pm and from 5:30 pm, Tuesday 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, Wednesday closed.
