This hike is particularly suitable in fine weather and the icing on the cake would be snow. However, depending on how icy the paths are, it may be advisable to wear hiking boots.
Whether by car, bus or S-Bahn, Bad Schandau is very easy to reach as the starting point for this tour. However, the start in the direction of Wustmanndörfel up to the Schlossberg can easily be confused. It is best to walk directly from the Elbe quay past the market square along Marktstraße to the north and climb the steps up to the Zaukenpromenade. Once at the top, the Schomberg castle ruins are enthroned here. On the ridge between Kirnitzschtal and Zaukengraben, the route then leads to Wustmanndörfel. This has only a limited connection with the famous naturalist Erich Wustmann. He himself lived in Ostrau at the time. From here, the trail is very clear. It is well signposted and leads at a pleasant incline through small forests, over hills and through small hollows. In glorious winter weather, this trail really is a delight for the eyes and the hiker's heart. It is also fascinating how the view of the Falkenstein, the Schrammstein chain, the Affensteine and the Zschand changes along the way. Shortly before the Hochbusch in Sebnitz, you can look back over Lichtenhain and see the striking Schrammsteine in the distance. The forest path to Sebnitz is then rather forest-heavy. Many downed trees along the way and a desolate clear-cut with a view of the silk flower town are in stark contrast to the other part of the tour.
