My favorite route: With the gravel bike through the Dübener Heide

This dreamlike GRAVEL route offers a bit of everything: lakes, forests, industrial culture.

You won't be disappointed in the first few kilometers. From Bad Düben, the route follows the Mulde bike path past the large Goitzsche lake, where the first swimming opportunity already awaits – so definitely pack your swimwear in summer. Shortly after, you pass the Rohrwerke Muldenstein, an interesting lost place right on the Mulde. The route continues along bike paths and through small towns to Ferropolis, a centerpiece of industrial culture. Be sure to allow some time here, there is much to see! The bike paths around Ferropolis are also well developed and suitable for road cyclists. After that, it's time to let out air and head into the forest. The Dübener Heide is an experience in any season; in summer the shade is very welcome, while in autumn it impresses with a splendid display of colors. The route follows the well-marked Berlin-Leipzig bike path for a while, and gravel enthusiasts will now get their full enjoyment. (Depending on weather conditions and tire width, it is better to stay on the main paths here.) Those who want to jump into cool water one more time can do so just before the finish at the Hammermühle natural swimming pool, before heading back to Bad Düben for ice cream or fries at the latest.

In autumn or winter, you can alternatively warm up and relax at the Heide Spa in Bad Düben.

Conclusion: This route definitely fills a whole day; besides about 80 bike kilometers, there is so much to discover and do that time hardly suffices.
