Malerweg, stage 6: From Schmilka to the spa town of Gohrisch (official version TV Sächsische Schweiz)

From Schmilka, the Elbe ferry takes you to the Schmilka-Hirschmühle S-Bahn stop. After about a hundred meters up the Elbe, the Aschersteig trail branches off to the right, where you meet the Caspar David Friedrich circular trail. It is worth taking a detour to the Kaiserkrone and the Zirkelstein. Follow the path through the village to Wolfsberg with its panoramic views and on to Reinhardtsdorf, where you can discover a little-known treasure: an elaborately decorated church in the rustic Baroque style. The oldest artistic representations of Saxon Switzerland can be found here! The church is partially open in summer. The Malerweg then leads to the Krippenberg, follows the Püschelweg*, the Elysiumweg and Koppelsbergweg to the Liethenmühle. You then follow the Alter Schulweg to the end and climb the two table mountains Papststein and Gohrisch (Stein) in quick succession. You reach your destination, the spa town of Gohrisch, via the Muselweg.

* Tip: Immediately after the Kanigstein viewpoint, you can continue along the Caspar David Friedrich Trail and visit the Bad Schandau district of Krippen, where the painter spent time capturing his experiences of nature and the landscape on paper, which he later used to create his paintings. You will pass the boulder that is the main feature of Friedrich's painting "Two Men Contemplating the Moon". Once in the village, follow the valley road until the ascent to Kellerfels begins on the left. Follow the Yellow Dot hiking trail to Liethenmühle. This does not extend the hiking route.
