In four federal states, the Lutherweg leads through places of the Reformation and to sites whose significance becomes clear through the effects of the Reformation movement.

Coming from the Saale-Orla district from Orlamünde via Neustadt an der Orla, the hiker reaches the charming area "Alte Wolsche". Along the Wolsche pond leading to the district of Greiz to Kesselsee, the route runs over Lindenweg, "Am Teich" to the Liebfrauenkirche and into the center of Auma with its market square. Starting from the market in Auma, the Lutherweg runs along the Thuringian hiking trail marking Green Stroke and the pictogram marking along the Auma river towards Läßigberg and Wiebelsdorf.

Along the main avenue to the Jägerhaus, you traverse a forest area that extends up to Weida. The Paulinenhöhe viewpoint offers a magnificent view over the town of Weida. Past the rock temple, you reach the side entrance of the Osterburg complex.

Here, an information panel "Hiking and Pilgrimage on the Trails of the Reformation" provides information about Luther's journey in the year 1530. It is reported that Luther preached daily on this journey. In Weida, he gave his sermon in the town church St. Marien.

Leaving the town of Weida, you walk along the mill ditch to Mildenfurth. The path passes by the oldest church in the Vogtland, the St. Veit church, as well as the historic wooden bridge.

From the city limits of Gera, the Lutherweg continues along the bank of the Weiße Elster. On a large loop of the hiking and pilgrimage trail through the city of Gera, you reach Ronneburger Höhe and Zschippern. The hiking and pilgrimage trail continues to Collis, Collismühle, along the Gessental into the area of Neue Landschaft® Ronneburg.
