The approximately 24 km long, marked hiking trail connects those places that were removed by the former GDR as part of the border security measures after World War II.

It leads from the fortified church in Triebel via Hammerleithen (part of present-day Pabstleithen) to the tri-border point Saxony-Bavaria-Bohemia. Following the distinctive trail marker "WSO," we reach the former settlement Hasenreuth on the so-called "Green Belt." Near Loddenreuth, the path leads into the former village of Troschenreuth. Past the former border company, the path arrives at the top of the ridge at Ebersberg—a small settlement that also fell victim to the border security measures. The trail ends at the Wiedersberg castle ruins.

Along the trail, information boards provide extensive details about the "disappeared" places.
