Sandstone, winemakers, residences!

It is the star among German cycle routes - no wonder with the variety of culture and nature that the banks of the Elbe offer. The Saxon part is especially varied: In the far east, the dramatic cliffs of the Saxon Switzerland rise high, then transition to the gentle hilltops of the Meißen Spaar Mountains near Dresden, and in the far northwest showcase the Reformation and Renaissance town of Torgau.
In between, primeval nature alternates with terraced vineyards, peaceful village greens like in Altkötzschenbroda are scattered in, as well as the picturesque old towns of Meißen and Pirna. The range of accommodation varies from spa hotels to cozy holiday apartments with family connection, the range of enjoyment from hearty country inn cuisine to elegant starred restaurants – and at the latest from Radebeul many seasonal wine taverns invite you to wine and cheese.
Finally, Dresden’s high culture puts the icing on the cake: the art collections in the palace and Zwinger are practically on the route, the Semper Opera House is visible from the bike, and in summer the route leads right through the film nights at the Elbe bank – what more could you want?
