Parking lot next to the Heldhaus Hostel, Nebelschütz
The start of the route is the parking lot at the Heldhaus Hostel in Nebelschütz/ Njebjelčicy. After you have looked at the interesting village center with the Wendish Gate, dovecote, etc., you cycle uphill past the St. Martin parish church, which is always worth a visit, and follow the roadside cycle path marked as the Krabat cycle route through Wendischbaselitz to the roundabout where you turn right. Following the road, you continue cycling. Along the way, you will repeatedly notice baroque prayer columns and wayside crosses. The Krabat cycle route turns left towards Dürrwicknitz, but you continue straight ahead and thus arrive at Miltitz.
In the village, a signpost directs you right to the "Miltitz Frog". You follow the sign and reach the Miltitz Frog, the widely known large Ice Age erratic, around which the beautiful Sorbian legend of the waterman revolves. The landscape provides the perfect setting, especially for younger children, to feel that the good friendly waterman is indeed just around the corner. In the adjacent forest, you will discover “land art” objects by various European artists, and a short narrow path meanders through the woods to reconnect with a former asphalted turning loop.
You cycle back to the junction and now turn right through the village of Miltitz, stay on the main road, and cycle towards the village exit until you reach State Road 100. You cross this and reach the Miltitz quarry, the KRABAT Stone, the exhibition and working site of the annual international sculpture symposia, land art days, and youth workshops. In the flooded quarry, small stone sculptures are hidden underwater. Diving tourists can here, in the truest sense, “dive” for a visit like the Sorbian waterman. Of course, visitors can also admire the “art under water” on dry land all year round, around the well-equipped grounds of the “Krabat Stone” quarry, showcasing sculptures by internationally renowned artists.
Return is again towards Miltitz; in the village, you turn sharply left and cycle on the Lindach Way back to Nebelschütz. Passing the reservoir, you cycle along Linden Street, a traffic-calmed street, past the interesting herb and farmer’s garden. You cycle past the Nebelschütz cemetery and return to the starting point of the route by turning right again. You now still have plenty of opportunity to view the village community center and the water features or pay a visit to the Krabat office.
