Hike via Bärenfels and Schellerhau to Altenberg.
This atmospheric hike begins with the historic Weißeritz Valley Railway on the journey to Kipsdorf. From there, the trail leads through the charming landscape of the Eastern Ore Mountains, past the famous carillon made of Meissen porcelain in Bärenfels and through charming villages with numerous cozy places to stop for refreshments. An ideal tour for anyone who wants to combine nature, regional culture and enjoyment in a relaxed way.
Kipsdorf district - Kipsdorf train station/civic center
Kurort Altenberg - Train station
Start at Kipsdorf railroad station. At the traffic lights, turn right onto Max-Reimann-Straße towards Oberkipsdorf and continue until you reach Alte Böhmische Straße. Now turn left and follow the signs (yellow bar) to Bärenfels for approx. 0.6 km. Then go straight on towards Hofehübel until you reach the Bärenfels forestry office. Now walk along the road to Schellerhau past Gasthof Bärenfels to the Meissen carillon. Now take the small hiking trail to the Matthäusweg. Follow this to the Schellerhau church. Follow the footpath along the main road towards Altenberg. At the last house in Schellerhau, turn right onto Schneise 28 and continue to the crossroads. Now turn left and follow the side path to Schneise 31. Continue right for approx. 400 m to Neugraben, turn left here and walk to Großer Galgenteich. Follow the path below the top of the dam to the campsite. Continue straight ahead along Schellerhauer Weg to Altenberger Bahnhof.
