An eventful tour through the Tharandt Forest, which lies in an ancient volcanic cauldron - a caldera - and is still considered a classic square mile of geologists.

The Tharandt Forest, which lies in an ancient volcanic basin - a caldera - is also considered the square mile of geologists. On the way, we encounter outcrops worth seeing with all the main rock types. On the geological hiking trail we reach the spa town of Hartha. From there we hike along the Geological Open Air Museum trail over the Landberg to Grund. On the way we see the porphyry fan. In Grund we visit the KNOX smoked candle manufactory and then hike through the old mining area along the Triebisch, into the Tharandt Forest, to the Warnsdorfer spring, through the Breiten Grund with the Meilerplatz back.
