The Basteiaussicht is probably one of the best-known vantage points in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
The panoramic view extends from the vacation resort of Wehlen in the Elbe valley, over the Rauenstein, Königstein, Lilienstein and far into the rear of Saxon Switzerland. The absolute highlight, however, is the direct panoramic view of the Rathen cliffs.
There are numerous other viewpoints on the Bastei. In the 19th century, this was an ideal place for painters and art students, and today the Bastei is one of the most important stops on the Malerweg trail. For over 100 years, the Bastei has been the main attraction in Saxon Switzerland, attracting crowds of tourists of all ages when the weather is fine.
