The Basteiaussicht is probably one of the best-known vantage points in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and offers a wonderful view, especially in winter.
The panoramic view extends from the holiday resort of Wehlen in the Elbe Valley, over the Rauenstein, Königstein, Lilienstein and far into the rear of Saxon Switzerland. The absolute highlight, however, is the direct panoramic view of the Rathen rock world and the remains of the medieval rock castle of Neurathen. Especially in winter, the panoramic view from the viewing platform is highly recommended. The cool, clear air gives you wide views that you don't get in summer. Be careful, the cool air usually also brings snow and slippery conditions.
