The worth seeing remains of the city wall are evidence of the history of Görlitz. Even today it is possible to trace the course of the defensive ring.
In the Middle Ages a city usually was created in a way that it was possible to walk around the city in an hour. Great parts of the city wall of Görlitz have been preserved to this day. Walk along the former city wall and discover one of the oldest parts of the city.
During this tour you will see the St. Nicholas‘ Tower (Nikolaiturm) - the oldest fortification of the city, the Ochsenbastei - a small park inside the city wall or the Reichenbach Tower (Reichenbacher Turm), which is the highest tower of Görlitz. Nikolaizwinger and Ochsenbastei have been converted to beautiful green spaces and are accessible from April to October.
Further parts of the city wall were the Kaisertrutz - today the Museum of History and Culture or the Thick Tower (Dicker Turm) - part of the fortification since 1250.
The Finstertor is another very important part of the city wall because it is the only preserved city gate. It is located in the Nikolaivorstadt but not part of this tour.
