Lusatian Flower Race

W skrócie

Every year Kamenz rings in the sporting spring season with the Lausitzer Blütenlauf.

In just a few days - on 5 May 2024 - the major event will take place again and the Lessingstadt will once again become a "Mecca" for cycling and running enthusiasts.
Around one thousand athletes and many more spectators are expected to take part in the various running, cycling, duathlon and Nordic walking disciplines as well as the inclusion course on the day of the event.

Sstarts and finishes on the Kamenz market square
The starting shots will be fired in front of the town hall from 10 a.m.
The racing bike specialists will take to the course first. The circuit with plenty of metres of elevation gain must be completed in an anti-clockwise direction 6 times (80 km), 4 times (50 km) or 2 times (25 km). Those who have reached the highest point near Hennersdorf and still have enough breath should enjoy the wonderfully wide view to the north over the Lessingstadt.

Children's races over 1 and 2 km
The individual children's races over 1,000 and 2,000 metres in the various age groups start one after the other from 11 am. The many pupils from Kamenz schools traditionally take part here.
Sports festival also for people with disabilities
The inclusion runners take to the track at 12.40 pm, which has been a firm fixture for several years now and has been very well received. Under the motto "Sport is healthy and can also unite", the runners complete the 2 km as a team, one athlete with a disability and one without.

Duathlon with Saxony Championship
Where the running and cycling courses converge in the same place, it makes sense to organise a duathlon. The starting signal is given at 13:30 and the event has been established for several years in various Saxon classifications and championships. The sequence of running, cycling and running again guarantees excitement right to the end.

Nordic walking as well as popular sports and scoring runs
Large fields of participants will also start in the early afternoon, first the Nordic walkers at 13:35 for the 10 km. This is followed at 5-minute intervals by the 15 km run, the 10 km run and, last but not least, the 6 km run. Depending on the length, there are many metres in altitude to overcome, e.g. around the Walberg, the Schloßberg and over the Hutberg.

Supporting programme on the market square and the school square
The packed and well-moderated programme of starts, finishes and award ceremonies ensures anything but boredom for the entire duration of the event. KAMI - the city mascot - and the flower queen will be there to cheer on the runners. The Oppach mineral springs, the support association of the Grundschule am Forst primary school with a cake bazaar and Marco Eyke's experienced catering team will be on hand to provide refreshments. If you're not an athlete yourself, you can cheer on the runners at the edge of the course.
For the little ones  this year, the Wochenkurier will once again be offering a bouncy castle and slide on the school square.
