The Freiberg Christmas market takes place in the historic city centre and combines contemplative Christmas atmosphere with traditions from the Ore Mountains.
Families are invited to immerse themselves in Freiberg's winter Christmas world on a trip to the Ore Mountains. In the middle of the festively illuminated old town - part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Montanregion Erzgebirge/Krušnohoøí" - the original miners' Christmas market opens daily from 28 November to 22 December 2023.
The imposing miners' pyramid is enthroned on the market square, surrounded by around 90 wooden huts with typical Erzgebirge products.
On 9 December 2023 at 17:00, the traditional mountain parade will start by torchlight.
There are special events and offers for children and families as well as for senior citizens and students, such as a mining workshop, Father Christmas consultation hours and a Christmas party. Many of the 250 shops, many of which are owner-managed, invite you to open for business on Sundays on the first and third Advent in the medieval streets of the old town.
Young and old can try their hand at ice skating on the ice rink in the castle from 22 November 2023 to 25 February 2024, as well as at Christmas brunch
and family New Year's Eve.
