Exhibition in the City Archive on the History of the Leipzig Operetta Ensemble

W skrócie

For the first time in Leipzig, attention is being drawn to the still little-known history of the Leipzig operetta ensemble, which has been part of the musical tradition of the city of music for over 120 years.
The Friends and Sponsors of the Musikalische Komödie Leipzig e.V. present the exhibition "From the New Operetta Theatre to the Musical Comedy - The History of the Leipzig Operetta Ensemble" in the Leipzig City Archive from 24 October to 14 December 2023.
The Musikalische Komödie in Leipzig's Lindenau district has been the city's venue for operetta and musicals since 1960 and has been part of the Leipzig Opera since 1990. The orchestra, choir, ballet and vocal ensemble originally emerged from the New Operetta Theatre in the Centraltheater, which was based in the current Schauspielhaus until 1945.

The exhibition is thanks to the initiative of the Friends and was created in cooperation with the Leipzig Opera and the Leipzig City Archive. The research interest of association chairman and member of the Orchestra of Musical Comedy Hendrik Reichardt led to an extensive collection of material and sources. On this basis, the association's chairman Jens Geßner and Hendrik Reichardt together developed the concept of the exhibition and implemented it organisationally. With its activities and concert events, the Verein der Freunde und Förderer der Musikalischen Komödie supports the artistic work as well as the listed venue of the Musikalische Komödie in order to contribute to Leipzig's cultural diversity. The entire exhibition project is supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Leipzig.
