As early as the 1920s, general director Max Adolf Pfeiffer brings the manufactory to artistic excellence through increased collaboration with external artists such as Ernst Barlach, Paul Scheurich and Gerhard Marcks. To this day, Meissen "one-offs" are objects of art that are created without a working form or model and are therefore not mass-produced. National and international contemporary artists are regularly invited to Meissen for this purpose. During their time in Meissen, they have access to the expertise of the manufactory and its artisans to realise their ideas. In addition, they enjoy artistic freedom and can realise themselves in the field of free art in addition to applied designs.
In the exhibition you will find objects by artists from a wide range of nations. Artists from Syria, Tunisia and India, for example, but also from South Korea and America, as well as from Switzerland and, of course, Germany, have worked in the manufactory as part of the artist-in-residence programme and have set new accents.
