Henry van de Velde Museum - Chemnitz Art Collections

W skrócie

Monument of European standing. Former dining room and the music salon mostly originally furnished.

The Henry van de Velde Museum comes up with exhibits taken from the extensive art collection of Chemnitz. The ground floor of the mansion Esche designed by van de Velde comes up with the mostly original furniture of the former dining room and music saloon, so that visitors get an excellent impression of the orginial ambience.

The Belgian artist was already a star architect, even though that term didn´t exist in terms of art back in those days. During his productive period back in the early days of the 20th century, he shaped both the European historic townscape and the theoretical discourse concerning the modern living. Van de Velde designed “living environments“, which are exhibited as a permanent collection in the upper floor of the museum. There, visitors get an insight of the former bedroom, the children´s room and bathroom, which reflect a perfect image of the wide and varied creativity of the artist.
